The Library is the Northern Territory's major reference and research Library, responsible for collecting, preserving and providing access to the Territory’s documentary heritage and connecting people to the world of information. The easyweb wireless system helps ensure that connection for library staff, researchers and the general public for study and research purposes.

The NT Library at Parliament House, Darwin, has offered free wireless to its patrons for years. But with complicated connection procedures, no control over what users were doing and limited coverage through the library buildings access was patchy and often slow while library staff spent many hours attempting to resolve technical issues.

The easyweb challenge was to design, build, install and provide ongoing technical support for a wireless internet access system that resolves these problems.

Easy Access

The system operates automatically, in the same way, on any device, anywhere in the library vicinity. 3 commercial grade routers to provide full coverage wireless throughout the library. All a user needs to do is locate the wireless service and accept the terms and conditions – no password or other login is required. And for VIP users, a password protected log on enables extended use. Quality of Service controls ensure quick and even access for all.

Content Filtering

The wireless system closes off inappropriate material using an open DNS content filtering system, while allowing unfettered access to the wealth of information the web has to offer. In any business, this is desirable. In the Northern Territory, under the “Intervention”, it is also the law. easyweb blocks access to specified sites, enables library staff to test these provisions, and provides a full reporting service on all content running through the wireless network.

Support

easyweb provides full technical support for all users and library staff via a 1300 number from 8am until 8pm every day of the year. So if an issue arises, it can be resolved quickly via easyweb’s remote maintenance system.
